Robin Thicke at Club Nokia, Los Angeles, CA

Love was definitely in the air with Robin Thicke serenading all the ladies inside Club Nokia on Valentine’s Day 2012. He couldn’t have picked a better club to perform in, with an intimate setting and soft lighting. All the love birds were there, holding hands, hugging, and swaying to Thicke’s music.

But before Robin Thicke swooned the crowd, two time grammy winner, Melanie Fiona, was his opening act. And, wow, did she know how to get the crowds attention! I was actually surprised at how many songs she fit in. I almost felt as if I was only at a Fiona concert. And, although I couldn’t wait to see Thicke’s perfomance, Fiona’s vocals impressed me with every note she belched out.

Finally, after about 40 minutes of Fiona, it was time for Robin Thicke to take the stage. He was as smooth as you can get. Dressed appropriately for Valentine’s Day with his red leather jacket, the girls melted as he walked on stage. With enough love songs to go around, Thicke dived right in with his band backing him up. He covered Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing” for the first time. And, I won’t lie, Thicke’s version was just as romantic. It also helps that he knows how to work his dashing good looks. He later picked up the mood with his song “Wanna Love You Girl”. The crowd was bopping their heads and waving their hands in the air. He proceeded to give everyone some words of wisdom for love following with his song “Love After War”. He even threw his red suede jacket, which he changed into mid concert, to a fan in the front! I wish I would have caught it!

All in all, I’m glad I got there early enough to get a good spot on the general admission floor. It’s the closest I’ll ever get to Robin Thicke and I loved it. Again, he picked a great small venue making it an intimate evening. Two thumbs up for Melanie Fiona, Robin Thicke, and Club Nokia!
